Join a group of friends as they learn important lessons about trying new things and friendship. Meet Mia, a young girl with brown skin who lives on Sunshine Street with her four friends. Mia and her friends call themselves the Sunshine Squad. The Sunshine Squad is having trouble deciding what to play next. Each suggestion makes Mia feel less confident and she decides to stick with what she knows, which is basketball. Mias friends join her for basketball when another child approaches. Mia tells her that there is not enough room for her to play with them but immediately feels badly about her decision. The next time the Sunshine Squad plays basketball Mia decides to try something new and invite the new girl! Lily, is the name of the new girl, and now the newest member of the Sunshine Squad. Lily even helps Mia try more new things! An additional short short story about trying new things is at the back of the book and tips for trying new things are included as well. The illustrations show diverse skin colors of children in a city setting. Wonderful story with a very helpful message.
