Mia’s neighbor Mr. Angelo has been under the weather, so he’s asked her to take care of his garden for a bit. Mia is sure she doesn’t need help, but after hours of weeding in the sun, she realizes that gardens are a lot of work. This is a job for the Sunshine Squad!

Soon each Squad member contributes to the garden using their own superpower” and creativity. As the garden comes together, the friends begin to see how their teamwork can pay off. This picture book features a diverse group of six children who have varying skin colors, backgrounds, and interests as they help Mia with a special job. Mia’s neighbor, Mr. Angelo, is sick and cannot take care of his garden. Mia’s friends offer to help but Mia thinks she can clean it up all on her own. Mia learns an important lesson about teamwork when she feels overwhelmed by doing the job all on her own. Mia’s friends come to the rescue! They all pretend to be superheroes taking care of the garden. The sunshine squad work together to clean up Mr. Angelo’s garden! This book is part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul KIDS series of books with the same Sunshine Squad characters. An excerpt from a 2012 publication of Chicken Soup for the Soul is included along with a section about other ways to work as a team. The illustrations are created digitally and are very detailed. This is an engaging story with an educational lesson for children in early childhood.
